Homemade Tootsie Rolls
One of my favorite things to do growing up was to make Homemade Tootsie Rolls with my family. We would put on our aprons, turn on a movie (it seemed like it was always The Swan Princess. Remember that one?) and go to town! We'd love getting messy and seeing our efforts turn into something perfectly delicious. This Valentines Day I thought this would be a fun gift to give our loved ones plus I wanted to share the tradition with my little ones. Ok and I was having some major pregnancy cravings... so sue me! Anyway, we decided to make a day out of it. (Heaven knows we would need a whole day!) After one broken bowl, two messy girls and a lot of patience, we ended up having a blast. I'm so thankful for my cute little kitchen helpers.
Homemade Tootsie Rolls (More details below recipe)

Combine dry ingredients-
Combine wet ingredients-
Watch out for flying sugar-
Combine the wet and dry ingredients together and squish with your hands-
If you're baking with the kids, I'd suggest buttering up your hands so it is not ask sticky....
Or if it's just you, I'd stick it in your Kitchen Aid with the dough hook. Less hassle, right?
Plop it on some parchment and roll into balls...
or tootsie roll shapes, or use a cookie cutter... Whatever floats your boat.
Refrigerate for a bit, and ENJOY!
I'd say it tastes like a really fudgy version of the classic tootsie rolls you can get at the store. It makes a TON! So make sure you invite friends over.
